If you’re a man over 40 you may have noticed that it can be a lot harder to get in shape the older you get. This is why these days it’s almost expected that guys over 40 will have a so-called “dad-bod“.
Well, I may be 40 – but I refuse to give up, which brings me to the subject of today’s post: Clark Bartram’s new TestMax Nurition System which was designed specifically for men my age (40) and older…

Before we get started I should say that I am actually in pretty good shape for a 40 year old man. I try to eat right most of the time and try to work in the gym 3 days a week. That said, I still have 10-15 lbs of body fat I’d really like to lose.
I was also interested in checking out TestMax because it’s not just another “weight-loss” diet, at all. Yes, it’s likely that you could lose substantial weight following these guidelines,* but the real goal of the program is to help guys optimize their hormone health and boost their testosterone.
So rather than making you count calories, or eat a lot of salads, or to do any of the other horrifying things that popular diets tell you to do (that don’t typically work out well for guys over 40 btw), TestMax intends to get to the root cause of the problem – deteriorating hormonal health.

Why Is A Nutrition Plan That Focuses On Testosterone Important For Guys Over 40?
First I should say that I am no doctor, I don’t have references and I’m not making health claims. The guys at SPS who published this program do have researchers, and references and you can check them out on their website if you want to look at the hard science behind this program.
That all being said, I have been through the TestMax Nutrition System course material, and have read several other books and articles about testosterone and men’s health. And at this point, it seems pretty clear to me that this is something that every guy over 40 should be concerned with, if you value your health, fitness, sex-life and overall happiness.
The is a staggering amount of research that indicates the testosterone plays in not only in fat loss and body fat distribution, but also in your ability to build and maintain muscle mass, your confidence, mood, and even your sex drive and sexual performance abilities!
Of course there are different methods out there for boosting testosterone like getting synthetic testosterone injections, using other prescription drugs and taking supplements. Most of the time I’m completely against this kind of thing unless your doctor tells you that you need that stuff… (Obviously listen to your doctor. Its always a good idea to get into the doctor’s office regularly and to discuss all of your health concerns with them) But if you are a normal guy, who doesn’t have any serious health issues, the diet is probably the best place to get started addressing your testosterone.
And on the subject of supplementation, there is actually a video inside the course where they have a doctor who is an expert on fitness (was a bodybuilder) who breaks down everything that you should know about test boosting supplements. This guy even had his own supplement company, so he is a total expert on this.
The bottom line on supplementation is – most products are crap.
Furthermore, and they explain in the video – If you aren’t addressing nutrition, then no supplement is going to make a difference.
So, no matter what, you want to focus on diet first. Then if you want to supplement with quality supplements on top of that (they tell you what ingredients actually work) then you can do that too.
What Comes With The TestMax Nutrition System & How Does It Work?
The entire course is digital, so you get access to a members section of the website where you can watch the videos and download/access the other training materials and tools. There is also a DVD version that you can get if you prefer to watch the videos on a DVD player.
The program itself is dived into 3 different phases…
In the first one, which is called the “HORMONAL DETOX PHASE” the focus is on eliminating foods that hyave been shown to be bad for male hormone health, ie. estrogen producing foods. So the meal plan for this phase includes foods that work to actively block estrogen, and also meeting the right ratio of macronutrients and micronutrients that men need to support hormone health. This first phase lasts 30 days.
Nest up is the “MALE HORMONE OPTIMIZATION AND RECHARGE PHASE” where you adjust your meals to support even higher levels of testosterone production. This is another 30 day phase and this is where things should really be happening and you should be seeing big changes in how you look and feel.*
And finally there is the “TESTMAX LIFESTYLE PHASE” which is ongoing. They say this is a 90 day phase, but ideally you can take the basic nutritional guidelines from this phase and more or less keep them as your eating plan for life. This is possible because your meals during this phase aren’t as strict and should allow you to maintain optimal test levels from here on out.
For each phase you get a full set of meal plans and recipes, as well as videos showing you how to prepare specific meals. One of the best parts is that they have devised a system where you can prepare, cook and pack up a whole weeks worth of meals in just an hour!
This part was exciting for me because I find that I spend way too much time cooking for myself when I have other important things to do. I already had been cooking some stuff ahead of time to keep on hand, but this has helped me to take it too the next level and is a really great time-saver. I know a lot of guys who eat terribly, and use the “I’m too busy” thing as an excuse – but with this there really is no excuse.
In addition the the full catalog of hormone support recipes and time saving preparation training you also get training on how to manage your foods shopping budget that can potentially save you some big bucks. There’s info on the testosterone killing habits and lifestyle mistakes that most guys make every day without knowing it, and how to make easy adjustments that can really help your hormone health.
There’s also a whole section of videos called the “Testosterone PHD Videos” that deep into everything you could ever want to know about hormone health. This includes some great info on small changes you can make that can potentially bring great results in a matter of days.
There are some other handy tools, PDFs, reference guides and so forth, but I won’t go over everything. Hopefully by now you can see that this is a very comprehensive course.
TestMax Pros & Cons:
PRO 1 – Easy To Absorb Information.
Let’s face it, no training program like this is going to do anything for you unless you actually watch the videos, absorb the info and then take action on it. The great thing with TestMax is that they keep it simple and present the info is a way that you can easily digest it and incorporate it into your life. The videos are straightforward and give you the info you need while at the same time being entertaining, and easy to watch. There is a co-host named Brooke Stacy who is pretty hot, so that never hurts :)
PRO 2 – Program Eases You In/Easy To Follow.
My opinion on why most diets fail is because they are just too unpleasant to follow, and they are a shock to your system. If you are used to eating pizza and burgers everyday and then you need to switch to steamed broccoli and cottage cheese, there is no way that the average person can do that without losing their mind! With TestMax you can slowly ease into it and once you are on the diet you are still eating things most guys enjoy like tasty beef with veggies and rice, and that type of thing.
PRO 3 – Real Science & Scientific Support.
There is a ton of “bro-science” out there from guys who think they know about nutrition but really they are totally clueless. Personally, when I take nutritional advice, or advice on anything that impacts my health I like to know that the person I am getting that advice from is a actual expert in their field who has gotten results for a lot of other people! The thing with Clark Bartram is that he has that reputation as being the top expert when it comes to nutrition for me over 40, and he has the success stories that he has collected from his clients. You can see the results he’s getting and they paint a clear picture of what this system can potentially do for you.*
CON 1 – Work Involved.
This isn’t really a con as it should be common sense. Unfortunately though there are a lot of people out there who have absolutely no discipline and look for things “work free” ways to lose weight like taking dangerous diet pills. So just know that to get results with this system you will need to actually follow along and stay at least somewhat consistent with it!
The Verdict…
As I just mentioned, there is some work involved with this system.
So if you are somebody looking to just swallow a pull and then think you are going to magically have a ton of testosterone and washboard abs, then this is probably not for you.
But, if you are a more clear-headed man, over 35 or so and you are looking for a really health nutrition plan that is going to maximize your hormonal health and everything that goes along with that then this is definitely worth a look.
